With quick, convenient, and easy-to-use designs, Keurig coffee makers have revolutionized coffee brewing.

Owning a Keurig brewer means making your cup of coffee just as you like using your favorite K-cup. Whether you want it to be extra strong, you gulp down a big mug of coffee to get through the day, or, like me, you sip on several espresso shots.

Keurig coffee makers have several buttons that perform specific functions to make coffee brewing uncomplicated. From choosing the brew size and making your cup extra strong to getting cleaning alerts, Keurig buttons do the job for you.

Most Keurig models have the same buttons, but some expensive models have separate buttons for additional features.

In this guide, I will describe Keurig buttons to help you make the most out of your favorite coffee maker. So, keep reading!

What are Keurig Buttons & What do they do?

All Keurig coffee makers consist of buttons, but what do they mean, and are they important?

To know the importance of Keurig buttons, you must first understand what they mean. Keurig has a variety of models, so the latest ones have digital buttons, while the older ones have physical buttons, depending on the model.

All Keurig brewers consist of a power button. Starting your coffee machine is as simple as pressing the power button.

Other essential buttons are the cup-size buttons. Using cup size buttons, you can get the coffee volume of your choice; 4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, or 12 oz.

Additionally, Keurig buttons also work as warning signals. Your Keurig brewer will illuminate a button when it’s time to descale, the water level is too low to brew coffee, or there’s a malfunction.

Different Keurig buttons & what they mean

The latest Keurig models have some additional features and separate buttons for them. Let’s go through their details to help you understand how Keurig buttons work.

Power button

The power button turns your brew on and off. The power button location varies depending on your Keurig machine model. It can be at your brewer’s top right or lower right with a power symbol.

If your coffee maker has a display screen, press the power button icon to turn the brewer on or off.

Cup size buttons

The brew sizes in Keurig models range from 4 to 12 ounces, so they have one button for each cup size option. While some brewers have separate buttons for each brew size, some have a plus or minus button.

By choosing the cup size, you will get the type of coffee you like, and it can be either a large mug or a small cup.

Strong Brew Button

Some Keurig coffee machines, like the K-elite, have a Strong brew button. It is an additional feature that takes the coffee to the next level.

The strong button boosts coffee’s strength and bold taste by extracting coffee grounds for longer. All you have to do is press the strong button on your coffee machine before it starts brewing and get a bolder cup of coffee.

Hot Water Button

The hot water button lets you take hot water from the coffee brewer without brewing coffee.

So, next time you want instant noodles or tea, get hot water from your Keurig coffee maker instead of heating water on the stove or microwave.

Iced Coffee Button

Some models, like the Keurig K-elite and K-supreme, have an iced coffee button. You can brew full-flavored coffee over ice by pressing the iced coffee button.

Favorite Button

Your Keurig model might have a button with a heart symbol called the favorite button.

You can change the settings of your brewer according to your preferences and then press and hold the favorite button. By doing so, you will set these settings as your favorite.

You can save up to three different settings as your favorites on your coffee maker.

Recommended Brew Button

Using Brew ID, the K-Supreme Plus SMART scans the K-cup and recommends the optimal brewing settings. If you press the ‘recommended brew button,’ Keurig will use the suggested brew settings to prepare your coffee.

Milk Frother Buttons

Keurig K-cafe has milk frother buttons to enhance your cup of coffee. The buttons are ‘latte,’ ‘capp,’ and ‘cold,’ so you can prepare frothed milk easily.

To prepare milk for a barista-style cappuccino, press the ‘cold’ button and then the ‘capp’ button to create the perfect foam.

Pod and Carafe Buttons

When you turn on the K-Duo, you can brew one serving or an entire pot of coffee.

Keurig’s two buttons will flash when you turn it on, one with a coffee carafe symbol and another with a small pod symbol. You can make a cup of coffee or brew a pot if you have company.
